COMMUNITY POND SUPPORT IN CHHESKAM OF MAHAKULUNGRURAL MUNICIPALITY-3, SOLUKHUMBU 2022-2023

The Partners Nepal constructed a community pond in Cheskam, Mahakulung Rural Municipality-1, Solukhumbu, to address climate change impacts. This shared pond plays a crucial role in climate adaptation by preserving ecosystems, storing carbon, and engaging communities. Protecting such areas enhances resilience to climate change, helping to mitigate the effects of droughts and storms.

“We are grateful to The Partners Nepal for establishing a communal pond in Cheskam village, Mahakulung Rural Municipality-1, Solukhumbu. We were amazed by the dedication of the ten individuals who carried a tarp for 2.5 days from Cheskam to the site. Our assessment of the one-piece tarp’s efficiency is ongoing. Thank you for creating this pond to meet the needs of people, animals, ecosystems, and stakeholders while addressing the challenges of climate change”.

Managing rainwater through neighborhood ponds reduces drought impacts, improves public health, and fosters environmental sustainability. The pond’s cooling effect supports local well-being, while wetlands absorb carbon, protect wildlife, and encourage climate action. The construction, completed in 1.5 months due to the urgency of climate challenges, benefits both the community and nature by balancing ecological responses. The initiative also highlights the importance of protecting local forests to combat global warming. Additionally, The Partners Nepal compensated the elderly project’s female helper for her contributions.
