Mong Chorten was built long time back by Buddha Chen Chen Lama who happened to be lama prior to the Khumbu’s first settlement. The Mong Chorten also suffered very much from the April and May earthquake. It needs to be renovated to preserve our historically importance.
On 25th April 2015 Nepal was shaken violently by a major earthquake of and followed by a strong aftershock on 12th May and hundreds more since then. The destruction following the quake killed over 8,700 people, injured approximately 22,000 and destroyed billions of dollars worth of buildings and infrastructures. Altogether the earthquake has affected30 out of 75 districts of the country and 14 have been classified as “highly affected”.
The Mong Chorten has been rebuilt under the leadership of Phurba Tashi Sherpa and Chhiring the cheif technical officer from Khumjung through the management of Khumjung Gompa Management Committee. With the funding support come from various institutions, local and international, the rebuild and restortion of Mong Chorten was completed in 2018.
