One Day, One Tree
Introduction The alpine ecosystems over 4,000 meters in Sagarmatha National Park are vital for fuelwood, grazing, water, medicinal plants, and tourism, but they have suffered substantial degradation as a result...
Serve The Mountain Communities
As part of the One Day One Tree initiative, The Partners Nepal partnered with Tenjin Eco-Treks to support yak herders in Langtang Valley, addressing the impacts of overgrazing on vegetation, soil health, and biodiversity. With native plants increasingly threatened by intensive grazing, the program focused on promoting sustainable pasture management.
Herders received training on pasture rotation and the use of yak dung to support reforestation, alongside practical support including tarpaulins, torch lights, gumboots, raincoats, and warm jackets. These supplies enabled safer seasonal movement of livestock to higher elevations during the monsoon. Together, these efforts help balance pastoral livelihoods with ecosystem restoration — strengthening climate resilience while protecting Langtang’s fragile alpine landscapes.
Through the One Day One Tree initiative, The Partners Nepal and Tenjin Eco-Treks supported yak herders with sustainable grazing training and essential gear—enabling safer livestock movement while reducing pressure on fragile alpine vegetation. Donor support helped promote pasture rotation and community-led reforestation, directly strengthening livelihoods, restoring biodiversity, and building climate resilience across Langtang’s high-mountain ecosystems.
