The reason for publishing this book is that today, the effects of climate change are felt worldwide. In the mountain environment where we live, climate change is becoming one of the greatest challenges to the local communities.

Climate Change is considered a critical global challenge, and recent events have demonstrated the world’s growing vulnerability to climate change. The impacts of climate change range from affecting agriculture, thereby further endangering food security, to rising sea levels and the accelerated erosion of coastal zones, increasing intensity of natural disasters, species extinction, and the spread of vector-borne diseases. Despite these consequences of climate change and global warming in the mountains, there is a widespread lack of awareness about the impacts of climate change and its challenges and opportunities. Many people do not understand the close ties between climate and weather, the consequences of climate change, and its effects on their daily lives.

There is no substantial effort to educate the people on these important climate change issues in Nepal. With proper education and support, people will have more potential to lead a bright way towards a safe and sustainable future. Imparting timely climate change education is crucial to creating a sustainable future for this and many generations. The book in your hand, Climate Change in the Himalayas: A Case from Solukhumbu, is the result of this realization by The Partners Nepal. The book aims to make people in these regions and elsewhere easily understand and be conceptually aware of climate change, global warming, and their effects on the mountain ecosystem, with special reference to the Khumbu region.

It also explains why climate change in Khumbu poses a serious threat to the environment and hundreds of thousands of people living in many different settlements down south. The Partners Nepal (TPN) hope is that by publishing this book, it will be able to educate and work with the communities of Solukhumbu to help them adapt and overcome some of the challenges posed by climate change in the region. It is important to educate and assist them in preserving these unique and beautiful geographies and cultures for themselves and many generations. The Partners Nepal also published a book on Global Warming and its effects in the Himalayas: A handbook for children distributed to all the schools in Solukhumbu and the mountainous region.
