THE PARTNERS NEPAL SUPPORTED CLOTH BAGS AS AN ECO-FRIENDLY CHOICE DURING DUMJI FESTIVAL IN KHUMJUNG

To address environmental deterioration and plastic waste, The Partners Nepal distributed cloth bags during the Dumji festival in Khumjung in June 2023 at the request of the Khumjung Gompa Management Committee. When The Mountain Institute launched the Sacred Sites trail initiative in 2004, the members of The Partners Nepal developed a similar concept. To minimize plastic pollution, cloth bags were distributed to Namche, Khumjung, and Phortse monasteries. These fabric bags are intended to limit the usage of plastic bags, which contribute significantly to plastic pollution. Plastic bags degrade over time, hurting ecosystems and individuals.

On the other hand, cloth bags can replace hundreds of plastic bags, reducing the amount of plastic produced. Plastic bags consume many fossil fuels, electricity, and water. By adopting cloth bags, we can limit the production of plastic bags while also conserving natural resources. Cloth bags can also be made of organic cotton or jute, which reduces their environmental impact. Cloth bags, which last longer and are made from environmentally friendly materials, reduce bag production energy and carbon impact. While cloth bags are more expensive than plastic bags, their reusability makes them less expensive in the long term.

Cloth bags save money, are environmentally friendly, and promote sustainability. Others may be inspired to embrace eco-friendly solutions by boosting environmental knowledge and action. Cloth bags are critical for protecting the environment from plastic pollution. Because of their reusability, low environmental effects, and wildlife advantages, they are an excellent choice for individuals and communities. Using cloth bags can help future generations live a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable lifestyle.
